Homemade Trail Mix

The other day we decided to make our own trail mix by buying the ingredients we wanted in bulk. It was easy and cost effective. Two things I  like!

All you need to do is pick 5-7 ingredients you want, and voila! Here is our recipe!


We chose
First Row left to right: Almonds, Chocolate Chips, Raisins
Second Row left to right: Pumpkin Seeds and Cashews
Back Row: Honey Sesame Seed Sticks

Other options include but are not limited to coconut shavings/chunks, walnuts, craisins, sunflower seeds. 

 

Put ingredients into a bowl and mix them all up! Then portion them out into jars or put the ingredients into an airtight jar and you can portion them out as you go! 

Trail Mix Ingredients:
1) Nuts - the majority of your trail mix should be nuts, ideally raw, but if you are allergic try lightly roasted. (1/2 your trail mix)
2) Seeds - these bad boys pack in the nutrition like you wouldn't believe, so throw them in there! This should be the second most prominent thing in your mix. (1/4 of your trail mix)
3) Dried Fruit - ah yes, the sweet things. When picking out your favorite dried fruit be sure you are choosing sun dried fruit, and be sure there isn't and extra sugar coating. (1/8 of your trail mix)
4) Party Stuff - there are many options for party stuff, popcorn is a good option, pop it yourself if you can, try not to add butter or salt to it as the other ingredients can help do that for you. Chocolate chips are also a great idea. Figure out what you like and rotate through your fun stuff. (1/8 of your trail mix)
